One of the most rewarding parts of our job as physical therapists is getting to watch our patients get back to doing what they love after an injury. You may remember seeing Javi on our Facebook page working on his upper body strength last January. Javi put in some serious effort with Ila and Kirsten at Family Physical Therapy, and then transitioned to our sister clinic, Next Level Performance and Sports Therapy for some sport-specific training to help get him back to his love for MMA. We love getting to see our patients getting back to their sports and recreational activities after an injury, so when Javi invited us to watch his return to MMA, we couldn't pass it up! Over the weekend, Ila and Kirsten headed over to The Panda Cup to watch some awesome Brazilian Jiu jitsu, Pankration, and mixed martial arts competition. Nothing could make us happier than seeing his smile when he won his first fight after putting in some serious hard work to come back from his injury. Family Physical Therapy and Next Level Performance and Sports Therapy send our congratulations to Javi!

Jiujitsu is something I thought would be very difficult for me to watch. It's not really because of the violence. I just can't stand looking at people violating each other's personal space. It's not like karate or aikido where you fight without really touching each other longer than a few seconds. The more I watch jiujitsu, the more I understand and appreciate the science involved in it. It's a shame I didn't realize that in the beginning.
